October 1st marks the first day of Stoptober- the nation’s biggest mass quit attempt to help smokers kick the habit.

The first day of the campaign welcomed the Stoptober roadshow to Liverpool, encouraging people to sign up and get involved. Crowds were entertained by Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists, Faces of Disco, who have toured with the nationwide campaign.

Last year Stoptober helped over 260,000 people in their quit attempt, and this year want even more people to join in and stop for good. Evidence shows that if a smoker can go 28 days without a cigarette, they are five times more likely to stay permanently smokefree.

During the event quitters received information, expert advice and support from local stop smoking service Roy Castle FagEnds. Life-size health and wealth wheels also bordered the event for smokers to track the benefits of giving up smoking on their health and bank balances.
