Former Coronation Street actress Sally Lindsay reveals fears of Alzheimer’s Disease

Coronation Street actress Sally Lindsay has revealed her fears of developing Alzheimer’s Disease after witnessing its heartbreaking effects.
Sally, who is best known for her role as Shellley Unwin in the popular soap, opened up about her own experience of caring with somebody with the disease.
The 42-year-old appeared on Lorraine where she spoke candidly about her grandmother who lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease when Sally was just 18.

The actress, who is now a proud ambassador the Alzheimer’s Society, has confessed she is worried about developing the condition herself.
She said “Me and my brother have talked about it because we just know what Alzheimer’s does is. It takes your memories away every day and when you think about it, all we are, are our memories and our ability and both of these things are attacked every single day and it’s absolutely sick.
“So I suppose I fight for Alzheimer’s because I’m so selfish really, I'm worrying about it for me.”
The mum-of-two went on to talk about her memories of her beloved grandmother. She said “I was 18 and I was just going into university when she died. It was five years before she got diagnosed so I was quite young really, but the burden fell on my mum and it fell on my grandad and there was nothing to support them.”

Sally left Coronation Street in 2006 after a five year-stint on the show and now she is about to embark on a new challenge for the charity as part of Dementia Awareness Week which runs between 15th- 21st May 2016.
She said “2500 women are working mothers and then their family member gets diagnosed and they have to take that on as well. So basically what we’re trying to say at the Alzheimer’s Society is to talk to each other and listen and ring people up and try and get help really, because you won’t have to do this on your own.”
