It sounds too sweet to be true - but a tiger in a zoo in Russia has become best friends with a goat that was meant to be its dinner.

It's an unlikely pairing as Amur the Siberian tiger had hunted goats before - but acted differently with this one.

The Far East Safari Park wrote on their website that because the goat hadn't been taught to be afraid of predators, the tiger decided not to mess with the 'fearless' goat.

The tiger is apparently even protective of his new friend, named Timur.

According to Russian television, the feline hissed at zoo staff who feed tigers - as a warning for them to stay away - which Amur hasn't done before.

Park staff explained that the two are so close because the goat understands Amur is the alpha male and because Timur is 'fearless' the tiger doesn't see his friend as a victim .
